Eye of Horus Ring

This stunning detailed ring features the Egyptian Eye of Horus as its focal point, scooped up in a horseshoe design. The Eye of Horus (which is also known as wedjat, wadjat or udjat) is an ancient symbol in Egyptian folklore, signifying royal power, good health and protection, and stemming from the god, Horus. It is similar to the Eye of Ra (which represents some of the same symbolic meanings but belonging to the Egyptian god, Ra).

The symbol was created as a symbol of protection for the pharaoh and ward off evil. Sailors from Ancient Egypt and the Middle East would paint it on their ship’s bow to safeguard their sea voyages.

Who Was Horus?

Horus was a sky god in ancient Egypt. He was normally painted as a falcon, probably a peregrine or lanner falcon. The right eye was linked with Ra, the sun god. The teardrop marking is representative of a falcon’s eye markings. The left eye, or mirror image, sometimes was a representation of Djehuti (Thoth) and the moon. The ancients in Greece and Rome often believed that if someone had an evil heart it could get to the eye. This shaped the myth that the eye had a power, producing energy that could cast ill wishes and spells with one look. These ancients believed that such evil eyes could be countered by the ‘good eye’ and, as such, the myth of the Eye of Horus rose.

One of these myths perpetuates that Horus was fighting with Set after the death of Osiris for the throne. Set tore out Horus’s eye, which was then restored by Thoth or Hathor. When it was found, Horus offered it to Osiris, his father, to try and restore his life. This is why the Eye of Horus often symbolizes healing, sacrifice, restoration and protection.

The Horseshoe

In many ancient cultures, such as those in northern Africa and Turkey, the horseshoe is also a symbol that is said to ward off the evil eye. Indeed, in many countries, there exists a belief that horseshoes bring good luck and is said to protect those within them, as well as attracting good fortune. There are some contradictions, however. Some believe that the horseshoe is best upright, to contain all the good luck. Others believe it should be hung downwards to let the good luck flow. This beautiful ring has a horseshoe facing upwards, thus symbolizing the good fortune held within it.

Gold in Ancient Egypt

The gold and silver metals add a striking element of contrast to this ring that makes it a real centerpiece and point for discussion. In fact, Ancient Egyptians actually believed that gold was a heavenly metal that was indestructible. The aforementioned sun god, named Ra, was actually referred to by another moniker: a mountain of gold. The Old Kingdom Pharaohs were also known as the “Golden Horus” too. As you can see, this entire ring is full of symbolic meaning which will be a real talking point for the wearer.

The Ring Itself

This stunning men’s ring embodies all of these elements and is symbolic of these rudiments of healing, sacrifice, restoration and protection. The wearer will be proud for it to adorn his finger. It is a real conversation starter, allowing the wearer the opportunity to explain not only its properties but the legends behind the symbol of the Egyptian Eye of Horus.

The Eye of Horus ring is made from hallmark stamped 925 Sterling Silver, with elements of gold plating to add to its decorative structure and style. The eye symbol is surrounded by a silver horseshoe design. It is fully adjustable and measures 16mm in height and 19mm in width of the ring’s design. It weighs 12 grams, so is extremely comfortable to wear. There are also two gold-plated triangles on the ring edges.

It is a perfect fashion item for today’s man who wants to wear a unique piece of jewelry. The symbolism of the horseshoe (bringing good fortune) and the Egyptian Eye of Horus (standing for protection, royal power and good health) means that the wearer should feel happy and healthy when wearing it. Furthermore, it should ward off those evil spirits and evil thoughts, allowing the wearer to experience joy and protection.

Care Instructions

To keep this ring looking as perfect as the day it was purchased, you should not sleep when wearing it. Furthermore, to prevent oxidation of the metal, you should avoid getting it wet. Remove the ring when showering or bathing and when carrying out activities that may cause you to sweat excessively. The ring comes with a cleaning cloth, so take care to clean your ring carefully on a regular basis especially if it has come into contact with dirt or moisture of any kind. It would also be wise to remove the ring when playing any sports due to its larger size and therefore the possibility of catching on something.

Finally

With good care and attention, this Egyptian Eye of Horus men’s ring will stand the test of time and be a true talking point for many years to come. If the legends are to be believed, the ring will help ward off evil, protect you from harm and keep you happy, healthy and full of good fortune. If you don’t believe the legends, then you still have nothing to lose in what is a beautiful ring to wear.
